This course provides a comprehensive overview of the International Residential Code (IRC) requirements for residential mechanical systems, preparing students for the ICC Residential Mechanical Inspector certification exam. Participants will gain an in-depth understanding of HVAC systems, fuel gas piping, mechanical ventilation, exhaust systems, and inspection procedures. The course is designed for building inspectors, HVAC contractors, code officials, and construction professionals seeking to ensure compliance with IRC regulations.

Key topics include ductwork and ventilation requirements, combustion air provisions, gas appliance venting, mechanical system inspections, and common code violations. By the end of this course, students will have the knowledge and confidence to perform residential mechanical inspections in accordance with IRC standards and pass the ICC exam. The Residential Mechanical Inspector is responsible for performing inspections of the installation, maintenance, alteration of mechanical systems that are installed and utilized to provide control of environmental conditions and related process for one-and-two family dwellings not more than three stories.

The residential mechanical inspector is also responsible for verifying the installation of fuel gas distribution piping and equipment, fuel-gas-fired appliances and fuel-gas-fired appliance wiring. The inspector shall have knowledge and understand minimum standards required to safeguard life or limb, health, property, and public welfare by regulating the design, construction, installation, quality of materials, location, operation, and maintenance or use of mechanical and fuel gas systems. The inspector shall also have the knowledge and understanding of "soft skills.
