About This Course
To become a "decorator" or "Designer" you don't need an extensive education or a fancy degree, just a good eye and a passion for the job. However, if you are interested in interior design, you will need to take specialized courses and gain the proper licensing from the state, depending on which state you are in. To become a good Interior Designer the designer must be able to identify clients' vision and not the designer's vision.
This is not to say that the designer should inhibit their taste but he or she should be able to play with the clients vision with adding their own niches along the process. The key is to pay very well attention and keep notes of the clients favorite things, capable of establishing a true connection with them, find out what is not working for the clients and how to fit the puzzle together for them so that they can make better functions in living. The designer must be able to pay attention to details, be organized, good planning skills, all the any through to the execution.
A great portfolio is key if you want to grow as an interior designer. It's the main way you showcase your work and personality when meeting with potential clients or employers. Interior design portfolios are traditionally physical binders or books, but it's perfectly acceptable to create a digital version if you prefer.
Remember, as a designer you're showcasing your aesthetic eye, so don't rush through this process and be sure to create something beautiful to share with others.
