About This Course
This course will help you to understand what metabolism is and how different biological molecules (carbohydrates, proteins and lipids) metabolism that takes place in the human body. In this course, you will be taught everything step by step as I tried to made it easier as possible for beginners or for intermediate level students that are learning or are interested in understand about what metabolism is in biochemistry. This course consists of six lectures:Introduction to Metabolism- definition and importance of metabolism will be explained.
Types of Metabolic pathways-There are three types of metabolic pathways that are anabolic, catabolic and amphibolic pathways will be explained. Carbohydrate Metabolism- Glucose which is the general precursor of carbohydrate metabolism will be given a general idea. The role of glucose in glycogenesis and pentose phosphate pathway(PPP) will be explained in depth.
The process of glycolysis that is the major step involved in carbohydrate metabolism will be explained step by step. Protein Metabolism will be divided into two parts:(i) In the first part of the lecture that is the Part 1, definition of protein metabolism will be explained. Amino acid catabolism will be explained.
How nitrogen is removed from amino acids will be explained in depth. Two major processes that are involved in protein metabolism: Transamination and deamination will be explained step by step. The differences between them will also be explained.
