About This Course

Course OverviewThis course helps students prepare for presentation exams by writing six short presentations on common challenges faced by young people. It focuses on 'personal challenges,' one of four areas in the TCL Communication Skills Grade 4 exam, alongside personal interests, achievements, and activities. Personal Development FocusWe explore topics relevant to today's youth to encourage personal development.

The course addresses six personal challenges: Fear of Public Speaking, Concerns about Others' Opinions, Negativity, Cyber Addiction, Time Management, and Toxic People. Practice Tests ApproachConsisting of six 'practice tests,' this course is not meant to test students' knowledge but to guide them in clearly expressing their experiences in facing challenges. It uses positive but fictional examples for demonstration purposes.

Structured TemplateUsing a structured template, students answer multiple-choice and fill-in-the-blank questions to create customised presentations effectively. This method ensures they internalise their message before practicing speaking. Presentation Story ArcEach presentation follows a story arc: Introduction, Early Challenges, Turning Point, Action Taken, Experience, Lessons Learned, and Conclusion.

Students can practice each section to build fluency and confidence, either alone, with family and friends, or with a tutor. Course BenefitsBy completing this course, students will confidently create presentations that tell their personal challenge stories, giving them important communication skills for the future. (Note: This course covers part of Trinity College London's Communication Skills Grade 4 syllabus.
