Marketing Strategy & Analytics Courses

The thinking behind the campaigns - positioning, funnels, automation, and the numbers that separate signal from noise

This section is where marketing stops being a channel and becomes a decision. Positioning, funnels, the numbers that say whether any of it worked: the material here sits above the SEO, social and email courses and is supposed to tell you which of them deserves the budget. In practice the listings are dominated by omnibus courses that promise every channel at once, and the useful strategy teaching is buried among them. Finding it is the work.

The omnibus course, sixty courses in one, the complete masterclass, the everything bundle, is the section's signature product, and it is worth understanding rather than dismissing. It exists because a beginner does not yet know which channel they need, and a survey of all of them is a rational first purchase. It fails as strategy teaching because a course that covers every channel has no room to teach the choosing between them, which is what strategy is.

What strategy teaching looks like when you find it

  • It names a customer before it names a channel. Positioning is a decision about who you are for and who you are not, and a course that starts with tools has skipped it.
  • It builds a funnel and then measures each stage. Awareness, consideration, conversion, retention, with a number attached to each transition and a reason the number is that one.
  • It distinguishes signal from noise in the data. Attribution is contested, dashboards flatter, and a course that treats analytics as reading a report is teaching the wrong half.
  • It says no to something. Every real strategy forgoes a channel, and a course that recommends all of them has not made a strategic claim.

Analytics is where the courses can be checked

Measurement courses are harder to inflate, because a dashboard either shows the number or it does not. The ones here worth taking are built around a specific stack and make you set up tracking, define an event, and read the result against a hypothesis. That skill is also where the vocabulary of the digital marketing concepts earns its keep: marketing automation is only useful once you can measure what it automates, and the SEO material among the search advertising and SEO courses assumes you can tell a ranking change from a traffic change.

Myths courses and money-making titles

A recognisable share of this section is courses about marketing myths, profitable tools, and proven strategies for freelancers. Some are sound; the titles are not evidence either way. Apply the four tests above to the curriculum, and treat any promise of a specific income as a reason to close the tab.

Concepts behind this area

Digital & Tech Marketing

Marketing Attribution

Marketing attribution is the assignment of credit for a sale or a sign-up to the advertisements, searches, emails and visits that preceded it, according to a rule called an attribution model, so that each channel's reported results reflect its share of the outcomes it helped cause.

Digital & Tech Marketing

Return on Ad Spend (ROAS)

Return on ad spend is the revenue a campaign produced divided by what it cost, expressed as a ratio or a percentage: five pounds of sales for every pound of advertising is a ROAS of 5, or 500 per cent, and the number only becomes a decision once it is compared with the margin on those sales.

Digital & Tech Marketing

Digital Marketing

Digital marketing is the trade name for every commercial activity that reaches a buyer through a screen, gathered under one heading because the work is bought, delivered and counted through the same few platforms rather than because the activities resemble one another.

Data & Analytics

Data Lake

A data lake is a store that keeps data in its original form, files of any shape in cheap object storage, loaded before anyone has decided what questions will be asked of it, so that the structure is applied when the data is read rather than when it is written.

Data & Analytics

Business Intelligence (BI)

Business intelligence is the practice and the tooling for turning an organisation's data into reports and dashboards that people use to run it: connecting to the sources, modelling the data into measures everyone agrees on, and presenting it so that a manager sees the state of the business without asking an analyst.

Data & Analytics

Data Governance

Data governance is the set of decisions and responsibilities an organisation puts in place over its data: who owns each dataset, what each field means, who may read or change it, how long it is kept and how its quality is measured, recorded so that the answers do not depend on who is asked.

The field, explained: Digital & Tech Marketing · Data & Analytics

This category belongs to the field Digital Marketing, which maps the topics, concepts and certifications behind these courses.

Frequently asked

Should I buy the sixty-courses-in-one bundle?
As a map of the field for someone who has never marketed anything, it is a reasonable first purchase. As strategy teaching it is not, because covering every channel leaves no room for choosing between them. Buy it knowing which of those two it is.
Which analytics tool should I learn?
The one your organisation already runs, and if there is none, the one the free tier lets you set up on a real site today. The skill is defining an event and reading it against a hypothesis; the tool is the container.
How do I tell a strategy course from a channel course with a grand title?
Ask whether the syllabus makes you decide anything. A strategy course forces a choice of customer, positioning and channel and then defends it with numbers. A channel course teaches a platform and calls the platform a strategy.
Is there a certificate for marketing strategy?
None with a page of its own; the vendor certificates in this field are tied to advertising platforms rather than to strategy. Employers read campaigns and results. A case study you can walk somebody through counts for more than any badge here.

Why Learn Marketing Strategy & Analytics?

Marketing at the systems level: positioning and funnel design, marketing automation, product marketing, and the analytics that tell you which half of the budget was wasted. The strategic complement to the channel-specific skills next door.
