Bash and the shell

Open a terminal on almost any Linux server and the prompt belongs to Bash, the GNU shell that runs commands, chains them through pipes and turns them into scripts; macOS now defaults to its close relative zsh. Administrators and DevOps engineers live in it. It excels at gluing programs together and fails at application logic, so a script longer than a page usually wants a real language.
