Docker made containers ordinary: a Dockerfile describes an application and its dependencies, the build produces an image, and that image runs identically on a laptop, a CI runner or a cluster. Developers and DevOps engineers use it daily. An image is not a virtual machine; containers share the host's kernel, which is why they start in seconds and why their isolation is weaker.
