Standardised by ISO and spoken, with dialect differences, by PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Snowflake and nearly every other relational system, SQL describes which data you want rather than how to compute it step by step. Analysts, developers and data engineers all need it. SELECT is learnt in an afternoon; joins, grouping and NULL handling are where understanding, and most errors, live.
