About This Course

What will I learn. Steve Bailey is a HCPC registered podiatrist, physiotherapist, and acupuncturist and treats several patients daily with plantar fasciitis and heel pain. He has undertaken and published numerous research in the management of plantar heel pain.

On this online course Steve will share his clinical experience and provide evidence-based practice on the most effective methods to resolve difficult cases of heel pain and plantar fasciitis. Plantar heel pain (PHP) is an umbrella term that covers several conditions of similar origin, including plantar fasciitis, heel spur syndrome, fat pad atrophy, Sever's disease, and tarsal tunnel syndrome. The most common diagnosis given for PHP is plantar fasciitis.

Heel pain and plantar fasciitis is a condition that is caused through a combination of factors such as inadequate footwear, overweight, increase in activity etc. NSAIDs have shown only short-term relief of symptoms. Cortisone injections are commonly administered in the treatment of plantar fasciitis however, this have been shown to have a poor treatment outcome and predispose the patient to rupture of the plantar fascia, which can eventually lead to long-term complications.

To effectively treat this condition, it is important that a detailed assessment is carried out to accurately diagnosis the exact structure that is affected and then a combination of treatment is required to resolve plantar heel pain. On this course you will learn; How to carry out a detailed assessment of the foot and a basic assessment of the low back in order to determine the primary cause of heel pain. The dynamic function of the intrinsic foot muscles and how weakness will contribute to the onset of plantar fasciitis or delay healing.
