Finance and Accounting

Financial risk, regulation and compliance

Behind every loan, trade and payment sits a promise that can break: a borrower defaults, a price gaps overnight, a system fails, a client turns out to be laundering money. Risk management measures those exposures, and compliance keeps the firm inside the rules written to contain them, from Basel capital standards to anti-money-laundering checks. GARP's FRM is the dedicated exam, and regulated firms employ whole departments to do this work.

Why this topic exists: Market, credit, operational and liquidity risk, Basel, AML and KYC and conduct rules: FRM Parts I and II, the CFA's Ethical and Professional Standards, CFP's Professional Conduct and Regulation; where finance meets the law.
