Finance and Accounting
Management accounting, budgeting and FP&A
Management accounting looks forward where financial reporting looks back. It prices products, sets budgets, forecasts cash and explains each month why actual results drifted from plan; inside larger companies the same work goes by the name financial planning and analysis. Of all finance roles it sits closest to operating managers, so its spreadsheets matter less than the ability to say what the numbers mean for the next decision.
Why this topic exists: Budgets, forecasts, costing and variance analysis: what the CMA examines and ACCA Management Accounting and Performance Management teach; financial planning and analysis is the same work inside a corporate finance team.
