HubSpot Inbound Marketing Certification
Inbound marketing is HubSpot's own idea, and this certificate is its manifesto in course form: attract people with useful content, nurture them with relevant follow-up, and let automation and data decide who is ready to talk to sales.
Nine lessons and just under five hours of video lead to a free, unproctored exam, and a pass counts for two years.

Prerequisites: None. HubSpot's sign-up form asks for an employer and a web address, and does not verify either.
Renewal: Two years, under HubSpot's rule that certifications not tied to its software last two years. Recertifying starts a new two-year period from the day you pass, and you may retake the exam without repeating the lessons.

How to prepare
1. The programme
The certificate is earned inside this programme. Its facts, price and the provider's own page are on the course page; the link there carries no commission.

A methodology certificate from the company that sells the method
HubSpot did not just teach inbound marketing; it popularised the term and built a software business on it. That history cuts both ways. The course is coherent, confident and well produced, because the people who wrote it believe in the model. It is also a course in which every problem has an inbound solution and in which a CRM with marketing automation, the product HubSpot sells, is the natural place for the method to live. None of the lessons is a sales pitch. The worldview is, gently, and a reader should notice that.
The syllabus runs from the fundamentals of the method through understanding your customer, creating content for each stage of the buyer's journey, distributing it, segmenting audiences by behaviour, and measuring return with attribution and experiments, before closing on automation and AI. It is a tidy map of digital marketing as a system rather than a set of channels.
The mechanics
- Free, with a free Academy account.
- Nine lessons, 24 videos and seven quizzes, about four hours and fifty minutes in all.
- One exam, one sitting. Leave the page mid-exam and you are locked out for twelve hours.
- Twelve hours between attempts, and the score is simply the share of questions you answered correctly.
- Six languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Japanese and Portuguese.
HubSpot keeps the question count and pass mark out of public view; the time limit is shown in the course once you are signed in. We leave those fields blank rather than repeat figures from forums.
| HubSpot certification | Validity rule |
|---|---|
| Inbound Marketing (methodology) | Two years |
| Content, Email, Social Media, AEO | Two years |
| HubSpot software certifications | One year |
Who it serves
It is an excellent first certificate for someone moving into marketing from sales, journalism, design or a small business, because it explains why the parts of a marketing operation connect. It is best known inside the HubSpot ecosystem of partner agencies and customer teams, which is where it carries the most weight. For an experienced performance marketer it adds little that a few years of work have not taught, though the attribution and experimentation lesson is a useful refresher. Pair it with a channel certificate such as Content Marketing or Google Ads Search to show you can execute as well as describe.
Getting through it efficiently
The course is long enough that people abandon it halfway. The quizzes after each lesson are the best pacing device: treat each lesson and its quiz as one sitting, and you will reach the exam in a week of evenings. Take notes on HubSpot's terms, because the exam uses them precisely; a question about the buyer's journey expects the stage names the course taught, not synonyms you use at work.
If you fail, HubSpot can email you your result split by section, which is the fastest way to find the lesson to revisit. You can sit the exam again twelve hours later. Renewal after two years does not require watching the lessons again, only passing the current exam, so the long-term cost of keeping the certificate is small.
What a question looks like
Written by us in the exam's style. It is not a real question from any question bank, and we do not publish those.
A software company publishes two blog posts a week and gets strong traffic, but almost none of those readers become leads. Its articles are all introductory guides. What should the team change first?
More content, more promotion and a new design are all plausible answers. The inbound framing looks for the gap in the buyer's journey: readers at the awareness stage have nowhere to go next, so the fix is content and offers for the consideration stage, with a way to capture interest.

How much preparation, from where you are
- New to marketing
- Watch every lesson and take the quizzes; the vocabulary of buyer personas, journeys and nurturing is the point.
- Working marketer outside the inbound tradition
- Skim for HubSpot's terms, which the exam uses precisely, and spend time on the attribution lesson.
What passing this does not prove
- Writing content that people actually want to read.
- Paid acquisition, which the inbound model treats as secondary.
- Running the method inside any specific software, including HubSpot's own.
- Your identity: the exam is unproctored.
Against the alternatives
- Google Ads Search Certification
- Google's Search credential covers the paid side: buying attention at the moment of intent instead of earning it. Most marketing teams need both skills, and both certificates are free.
- Meta Certified Digital Marketing Associate (100-101)
- Meta's entry exam costs money, is supervised and deals only with advertising on its own apps. It is the harder credential to obtain; Inbound is the broader one to understand.
- HubSpot Content Marketing Certification
- HubSpot's Content Marketing certificate goes deeper into one stage of the inbound method. Take Inbound first for the map, Content second for the craft.
HubSpot Inbound Marketing Certification — quick answers
Is the HubSpot Inbound Marketing Certification free?
Yes. HubSpot Academy is free, and so is the exam. You only need a free Academy account.
How long is it valid?
Two years. HubSpot gives two years to certifications that are not about its software and one year to the software ones.
Is it the same as the Inbound Certification?
No. HubSpot also lists a separate certification simply called Inbound. The Inbound Marketing Certification is the marketing course described here; check the course title before you start.
Do employers recognise it?
It is most familiar to agencies and marketing teams in the HubSpot world. Elsewhere it reads as evidence of interest and vocabulary rather than of results, which is the honest limit of any free, unproctored certificate.
What if I fail?
You can sit the exam again twelve hours later. HubSpot can email you your result split by section, which shows where to revise.
