CFA Institute certifications

The institute frames its programme as a progression of verbs. The first level is about knowing and explaining, the second about analysis and appraisal, the third about combining ideas and using them. The question formats harden to match, and the published ten-year pass rates rise from level to level. On this site, Level I has its own page.

Passing all three is not the end. The charter itself needs 4,000 hours of work that feeds investment decisions, gathered over at least three years, two or three professional references and regular membership of the institute. The institute estimates three to four years for the programme alone, with around 300 hours of study at each level. Exam fees across the three levels fall within a range the institute publishes on its fees page, and the digital curriculum and practice tools are included in registration. What the charter proves is breadth and stamina in investment analysis, ethics included; what it does not prove is that you can win clients, lead a team or manage risk in the narrow sense a bank's risk department means. For that last role, compare it with the FRM before committing years to it.
