Xero certifications

The programme is free and deliberately short-lived. Certification runs in three levels taken in order, from the entry level (the Xero Certified Associate) through a professional level to a specialist level, and each lasts twelve months from the day it is earned. Renewal is a brief recertification assessment for your highest level only. Specialist badges, starting with payroll, sit beside the levels and renew on their own yearly cycle.

What a Xero certificate proves is narrow and useful: that the holder has recently shown they can work in the current version of the software. The yearly cycle is the point, and Xero now pairs it with short monthly update videos and regional webinars twice a year. It proves nothing about accounting judgement, tax or payroll law, and the assessments are online without any supervision the page describes. Accountants who need continuing-education hours should note that points come only from completing both the learning and the assessment. Read alongside a bookkeeping qualification, the badge tells a client both that you understand the books and that you can keep them in the tool they chose.
